A building of interesting Architectural design, The Simms Reeve Institute sits in the heart of the rural village of Brancaster providing an important resource for the local community and surrounding area. The Institute is approximately 100 years old and was left in trust to the local community by the Simms Reeve family. To this day it provides a wide range of community needs, from adult educational and recreational activities such as line dancing and yoga to facilities for an active pre-school group.
The Simms Reeve Institute also provides for a wide range of community needs, and also hosts activities run by local and national voluntary charities, such as the Red Cross, RNLI and Coastguard Service, Air Ambulance. Further, the building provides meeting spaces for the Parish Council’s public meetings and the polling station; the local primary school makes use of the Institute and its adjacent sports facilities. The Institute has developed a range of commercial activities, such as social and celebratory occasions, exhibitions and fairs. There is also an emergency defibrillator housed on the side of the main building.
The building itself houses a village hall, social club and Post Office with a playing field, an all-weather sports court and village shop making up the complex. The site has its own car park and sits beside the A149, the main coast road and is also served by a bus route.
